It amazes and impresses me when people are able to come up with new ideas, particularly when it’s do with helping others make money. Take e-bay, for instance. It’s essentially the largest garage sale in the world. It’s true that you can buy new items but it is also true that you can buy almost anything and everything that someone else no longer wants or needs. Of course, this also means that you can sell pretty much anything that you no longer want or need. Is it worth it? Well, I’ll let you be the judge of that question. My personal experience says yes. I’ve used e-bay many times and, by the way, I have also done regular garage sales. It’s not that I prefer doing one over the other. Quite frankly they both have their advantages and disadvantages. Each has always created some money that can then be used for something else. Personally, on occasion, I don’t mind sitting in front of my garage, chatting with neighbors and selling some of my unwanted household items. I find it quite relaxing. I also find e-bay quite a lot of fun. Each, incidentally, usually involves my kids, which brings an extra benefit to the table. Please remember that depending on your tax situation, it may simply be better to give it all away to charity. Sometimes the tax deduction and as such, the tax savings, can be greater than the money you would have received by selling it, takes less time and benefits someone else. Even in our situation, we still give plenty to charity because not everything gets sold. It’s the best of both worlds.
